This program is a unique take on a volunteer program in rural villages just outside of Cusco. As a volunteer at this program, you will undertake a full immersion by living with a Quechua speaking family. The family will be unable to speak any English, but may understand limited Spanish.
The aim of the project is to educate and immerse volunteers into every-day life with the family, assisting in the day-to-day duties. You are encouraged to take initiative, and assist with activities including:
You may also have the opportunity to learn other skills such as traditional weaving, working with natural dyes, and helping create products to sell at the market.
Please note that you must be very prepared for accommodations without central heating and cool nights, running unheated water, limited electricity, and no internet.
The volunteer schedule may vary depending on the needs of the program, You may have a morning, afternoon, or evening schedule. If working in the afternoon, you can expect something similar to:
First Day: On your first day (likely a Tuesday) you will be introduced to your placement and staff by a local coordinator.
12:00 pm - Lunch
1:00 pm - Travel to placement, where you will be introduced to the structure of the placement. Your roles and hours are determined by the needs of the program.
4:00 pm - Your work day ends after a 3-4 hour shift. Afterward, you may go sightseeing, shopping, or take a Spanish class.
7:00 pm - Dinner
